Default 70th. Anniversary.

It's a slow day so I was reminiscing ( I do a lot of that now). I got out my hand held calculator, punched in 2015 and subtracted 1945 and there it was ---- 70. I knew immediately that wasn't my correct age so it had to be something else. I couldn't remember where I was or what I was doing but I knew I was somewhere in Europe. Some of the guys said there was a fireworks show down the road. Our CO said we didn't have to go but a lot of others had to go and some didn't come back. I suppose those guys made it possible for me to come home and enjoy these 70 years. Thanks a million, guys. I'll never forget you.

I felt darkness from the imagery and got goose bumps reading that.

Thanks for sharing, Joe! My step dad spoke very little about his time in WWII but the few times he did, it sounded like your story. You guys were are greatest heroes and we thank you for all you did.

Funny how related things seem to happen at the same time. A friend passed this along to me yesterday.

Always grateful for those who sacrifice.

Three men here in Clemson were POWs in three different wars. Ben Skardon in WW2, Bill Funchess in the Korean War and Bill Austin in the Viet Nam War. I know Ben but close friends of both Bills. Stories of their time as POWs is amazing. It's a wonder they survived. Bill Funchess has written a book of his experiences and I have a copy. His book is real meaningful because I was in some of the same areas. In fact, one of out teams was assigned to his division and we lost some men at the Chosen Resevoir. Three great men.
