Hmmm. I sure wouldn't blame technology. I would blame cost. Technology comes in only because of the cost in my opinion.

Americans wages have been stagnant. Almost all sports have priced themselves out of the reach of a large section of families. It simply comes down to what can you afford. America’s universities have been spending like crazy and athletic departments have as well. Eventually it’s going to fall under the strain. One shoe I expect to drop soon is the large sums the tv nets are willing to pay the conferences. The viewers and subscribers are falling away each year.

Right now I’m guessing NBC is struggling with the ratings for the winter olympics.

Note to the MAC, no one is interested to watch your FB games on Tues or Wed nights in Oct/Nov let alone getting your students and alumni to attend these made for tv timeslot games.

The biggest surprise to me is the fact the the average number of people going to games is approximately the same now as it was in 83. I definitely would have bet it would be higher now given the bigger stadiums now. I gues it may be due to more smaller schools (and stadiums) now.

I didnít read the article that closely, but does attendance equal ticket sales or number of people showing up for a game?
