So we save a whopping $350,000 by keeping him one more year. $1.8 plus a $850K buyout vs $3.0 buyout this year. We will lose more than that in ticket sales.

Except we would have to hire a coach, and I would assume he would want to be paid.

I think you are missing the point. We would have to hire a coach regardless. By not firing him now we are losing money in the long run. The renegotiated contract only saves $350K and will probably not cover the loss in sales due to lack of interest. By not firing him this year, we are losing money in ticket sales and the excitement of a new direction of the program with a new arena as well as falling behind in recruiting. A new coach could of at least been able to show the direction he wants to take the program and have a chance at convincing Zion Williamson to come to Clemson.

So, we should have fired because there might be a decline in ticket sales, might be a loss of excitement, and might fall behind in recruiting? Nothing you said is concrete. There is no factual basis in your post as to why Brownell should have been fired. It's purely speculation.

Brownell was instrumental in getting the donors involved to renovate Littlejohn, and he just signed his best recruiting class while also getting interest from a legit one and done player. I guess you haven't followed TCI's reporting that if Brownell is fired, Williamson wouldn't be considering Clemson.

Perhaps DRad surveyed interest in the position and found that the coaches interested would not be a step up over CBB. Big name coaches are not sitting around waiting for the Clemson job to open up.
