Get rid of him and get a coach that knows how to coach. Rebuild from the top down.
Brownell has had 7 seasons and delivered nothing.
Any other University would have gotten rid of him, not reward him for a dismal overall record after 7 seasons.
Why is Brownell being protected ?
Here's why he's being "protected:"
-Best graduation rate for a Clemson basketball coach ever
-Highest team GPA for Clemson basketball ever
-No recruiting violations/NCAA issues
-Zero off-the-court incidents with his players
-He loves Clemson and is loyal to Clemson
-Second best ACC winning percentage in Clemson basketball history
-Almost single-handedly improved our basketball donor base in order to raise funds for the new facilities
-He is well respected in the coaching industry
-He has his best recruiting class coming in for 2017
-He had to play last year away from home, with horrible circumstances for practicing and traveling to games
When we look at the most successful Clemson coaches, none were as perfect as many here like to portray them. Barnes is probably our best basketball coach ever, and he didn't care about academics, plus he was not loyal to Clemson and bolted for greener pastures (and insulted Clemson in the process). Purnell is probably our second best basketball coach ever, and he was like Barnes in that he left us in an extremely classless way. Both Barnes and Purnell reportedly had affairs while our head coach, which says nothing for who they are as husbands or the example they set for the players on their teams.
Cliff Ellis had some good seasons, but he cheated and we had to vacate our 1990 NCAA Sweet Sixteen team due to NCAA violations. Tates Locke won some games, but he cheated too.
Larry Shyatt was a nice guy, but had a losing record overall and in conference.
Brownell isn't perfect, but some Clemson fans are forgetting just how flawed most of our coaches have been. Either they had losing records, paid zero attention to the type of young men they were recruiting and molding, cheated, or had some success here and left us high and dry - and insulted us on the way out. Many had a combination of these.
I don't know if Brownell will be successful at Clemson. He might not be, but he is our coach for 2017-2018 so let's support him and give him all the tools he needs to be successful.
