Default Prediction Time - Clemson in NCAA Tourney

So now you know the bracket. How far will Clemson go in the tourney?

We get down early to NMS, but rally only to get down big again the last few minutes of the game. One and done...

We got a bad draw. A late game on the west coast against a talented team as a 12 seed. Will need to look closer into New Mexico St playing style to see if/how they can exploit Clemson’s flaws. If they play strong perimeter D and have enough bigs to challenge Thomas inside then I think it’s one and done.

I don't understand the Debbie Downers. This has been a good team all year long. They just competed with the best team in the country, and, now, all of you are scared of NMSU? Why? They have beaten one decent team all year, while losing to powerhouses named Seattle and Utah Valley.

I agree. I just don't see it. Why is everyone so scared of NMSU? Because Barkely was impressed by them beating Grand Canyon? Seriously? Everyone does know if they didn't beat Grand Canyon they would be lucky to be hosting an NIT game.

If Clemson and NMSU switched schedules, Clemson would be undefeated and NMSU would be sub .500.

NMSU SOS 165th

I'm saying we make it to the sweet sixteen. We beat NMSU by 14 and get the win over Auburn by 6.

All year long? I don't know about that. The last stretch of the season, including a not great loss at Syracuse, was wildly inconsistent.

Which Clemson team shows up will tell the tale.

Mitchell wasn't healthy at the end of the year. I'll go Sweet 16 too.

This sends me over the edge.

You mean after Donte went down, a more than likely ACC 1st teamer and leader, AND losing the floor general for 3 games we were inconsistent.

My God name another team not named Duke that could lose 2 of the best, one for good, and still win?

Understood completely. Aside from losing players, I'm looking at sheer wins and losses. Nothing more.

I am going to be cautiously optimistic and say we make it to the sweet 16.

People keep saying that our bracket is loaded; I disagree. Realistically, the sweet 16 should be the goal. I don't see us losing to NM State, Auburn or Charleston. Guard play is important at tournament time and none of those teams are dominant enough inside to exploit Clemson.

I think there is a decent shot of the final 4 here. Kansas is not the same Kansas team that we are used to (and neither is the rest of the Big 12). If we somehow beat Kansas, then we get a shot at Duke most likely on a neutral floor with non-ACC refs (if Duke makes it past Rhode Island).

As I have said before, this tournament is wide open. I'd be disappointed if we are not playing next week.

Sweet 16. New Mexico State doesn't scare me, although I am sure they are capable of beating us if we play poorly and they play well. That won't happen though. We don't run a gimmick scheme anymore that fizzles come tournament time (here's looking at you, Coach Purnell). Plus, this team is battle tested, confident, and never panics. The NCAA Tournament is all about strong guard play, and that is our strength.

We will then beat Auburn or College of Charleston in the next round. I honestly won't be surprised if it is C of C. Auburn seems to be slipping.

I would be predicting a deeper run if we had Grantham. We are still capable of a deeper run now, but I don't think it is nearly as likely without Donte.

We make it all the way to the elite 8 before we run out of magic. NMSt is tough but we find a way to win. Id be more scared of CofC in the 2nd round than Auburn. I think they are headed down because of late season injuries. We can beat a wildly inconsistent Kansas team if they have an off night (and they have had far too many this season). Eventually we get bested by the tourney prowess of Izzo and MSU.

Or we can't hit anything against NMSt and go out quick. (But Im going with the top option!)
