I personally don't see the appeal to cooking my own steak when eating out. If it's like Korean bbq, I can see it. But if I order a nice thick cut I want someone professional cooking it. That's part of the reason I'm paying the markup.

That and I find Iím not as good at it as a (good) chef.

San Diego is a beautiful city. Just enjoy the sites of Coronado, La Jolla, etc. Go check out the seals... this is birthing season, so you'll probably see some little seal pups. We just went out there for the first time last month and it was awesome. We did grab some In-And-Out Burgers. They were good, fries, not so much.
