Default South Carolina

The other Scar predictions thread got me poking deeper into their stats. This is a Good breakdown from another site:

The Gamecocks are off to a 2-0 start despite being outgained 927-605. How have they done it?
*Special teams. Deebo Samuel returned a kick for a touchdown against NC State. Then he did it AGAIN against Missouri.

*Turnovers. After two games, the Gamecocks have only one turnover. They're +4 overall. They were +3 yesterday.

*Taking advantage of short fields. The SC offense scored four TD's against NC State. Just one of those four drives went for more than 51 yards. One was a 13-yard drive. South Carolina scored three offensive touchdowns against Missouri. One of those drives went for more than 44 yards.

*Overall, South Carolina's offense has scored seven touchdowns. Two of the seven were long drives (both 80 yards, IIRC). Four of the seven were less than 50 yards. One was 51.

*Penalties. South Carolina has been called for just ten in two games.

In a nutshell, South Carolina has done a great job of not shooting themselves in the foot while being opportunistic with short fields. And Deebo Samuel...wow. Dude is a monster returning kicks.

That's a very good breakdown. However, everything SC is doing/getting away with are difficult to maintain. Soon teams won't kick it to Deebo, and they'll play more disciplined teams that aren't so error prone.

Basically, when they play competent opponents they're going to face an uphill battle.

They've been outgained by significant yardage in both games against some below average teams. While everyone pointed to NC State's dline most of us ignored the secondary that was starting over, Matt Canada left, and Dayes was gone...their best player.

If anything they could win 8 games and not be a very good team at all. They play no one worth a crap from the West and would anybody here state that anyone from the East is a good football team?

Matt Canada was the Offensive Coordinator at Pitt last year, not NC State

Sorry....should have expanded that. Just...formationally and from a playcalling standpoint, NC State looks different now. They didn't change up a whole lot last year even with him leaving prior, but you can see it now. Huge difference in TE usuage, motions, even route concepts, etc.

Speaking of, pretty happy we don't face Matt Canada this year. That dude is a stud and gave us all we could handle two years ago at State and Of course Pitt last year.

Doeren will get fired for losing him and I think LSU beats bama this year because of him And Aranda.

Canada is an outstanding play-caller and even better play designer. He uses the sets and motion to align the defense and then uses those alley-type runs...it's beautiful to watch. I'm glad he's not on the schedule.

SC has overachieved this far. Conventional wisdom would say that this is unsustainable. They also play in the SEC east which is pure garbage this year.

Screw'em! Don't care! Will not give them my attention until the final game of the season, but you go ahead and keep them in the present.

SC looks slightly better than last year, which is a pretty low bar. As of yet they havent had a real test. NC st is a decent team, but have a very bad 2ndary and ST's killed them. Mizzu is hot garbage. They are lucky go be in the terrible terrible SEC east. They could be 4-0 going into the ATM game.., and they arent so impressive so far either.

I can see them wnning 7-8 games this season then getting blown out in a bowl game
