Is he going to get a significant number of touches on offense? If the answer is no then no he is not a candidate.

He might be a "candidate," but not close enough to get an invite to NYC. I think Cain* has a better shot than Wilkins, just because he's on offense and could be "THE GUY," especially with a QB that's gonna need the WRs to step up and make a lot of somethings out of a lot of nothings. Cain can turn 5 into 45 real quick (ie - the natty).

*I don't necessarily think Cain has a shot, just more of a chance than Wilkins solely based on his position and touches.

It's nearly impossible. He'd likely have to post double digit sacks, force a few fumbles, score 2-3 tds on defense, & score a few tds on offense.

Not likely. Yeah it would take a huge year just to be in conversation right. Defense will be awesome.

nope not gonna happen. that award has exclusively, cept once (Woodson '97) has gone to Offensive players... and in recent yrs to almost all QBs and RBs. Not sure who will win it, but ill bet they will be a QB or RB... possibly a WR

Ndamukong Suh came close in 2009. He was 4th in the voting, with Ingram winning it. He had about as dominant year (85 tackles, 20.5 TFLs, 12 sacks, 10 PBUs, etc) as a defensive player can have and still fell behind Ingram, Gerhart and McCoy (2RBs and 1 QB, as you mentioned). The only reason a defensive player was in NY last year (Jabrill Peppers) is because he played all 3 phases and the attention came from some of his athletic offensive plays.
