Default The Insider Report

It is time for this week’s edition of the Insider Report.

We hope everyone had a great weekend. It was a great weekend in Death Valley as Clemson welcomed back the national champs.

Payback

Saturday night’s game between Auburn at Clemson is considered one of the hottest tickets in college football this weekend.

With ESPN in town, a primetime game between two top 15 teams, the atmosphere inside Death Valley should rival the 2013 Georgia game, the 2015 Notre Dame game and last year’s Louisville game.

However, there will be some unhappy campers when they first get in the stadium, and they will be Auburn fans.

When Clemson visited Auburn last year, the Clemson administration was not thrilled that Auburn stuck Clemson fans, players’ parents and families, and administrators all over the stadium and not together. The majority were nowhere near Tiger Band, either.

TCI learned Clemson will repay the favor on Saturday.

Auburn’s band will be located where all visiting bands have been for years, in the west end zone seats. However, there will be very few Auburn fans to cheer with them as Clemson will treat Auburn the same Auburn treated them last year. The 10,000 or so Auburn fans that make it to the game will be scattered all over the stadium and most will be nowhere near its band.
So it appears things are heating up between the two schools in more ways than just on the football field.

IPTAY’s new digs

We are hearing IPTAY’s new office will begin construction at the conclusion of the football season. Construction is expected to begin by Dec. 1.
The office will still be located where it has been for years, but the entire ticket office and IPTAY business area will be gutted. The brand new facility will be three stories high.

IPTAY will move its offices temporally to the south side stadium suites and the Bob Bradley Press Box until the new building is complete. Construction is expected to be completed sometime in the summer and IPTAY is expected to be back in its new building by the start of the 2018 football season.

Monte Lee to get a new deal

TCI has learned Clemson head baseball coach Monte Lee will get a new contract soon. Talks between Lee’s representative and Clemson are still in the early stages, but a deal between the two parties will be wrapped up sometime in the next six weeks.

Lee’s just finished the first year of a six-year deal the Board of Trustees approved on July 14, 2016. That deal runs through the 2022 season.
The Clemson baseball coach received $400,000 in 2017 up from the $350,000 he received at the end of the 2016 season. Lee's total base plus supplements is expected to be $450,000 for 2017-2018, $460,000 for 2018-2019, $460,000 for 2019-2020, $480,000 for 2020-2021 and $500,000 for 2021-2022.

The six-year deal is worth $2.75 million over the life of the contract. The contract at the time put Lee in the top 1/3 of salaries of head coaches in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

However, since Lee signed his contract in 2016, the market place for college baseball coaches has changed. New South Carolina baseball coach Mark Kingston signed a six-year contract running through June 30, 2023, that calls for annual compensation of $600,000.

Because Lee has a better résumé to this point in his career than Kingston, Lee is expected to get a bump in his salary that should put him in the same neighborhood as Kingston’s annual compensation salary.

In his first two seasons at Clemson, Lee has accumulated an 86-41 (.677) record. Clemson is one of just eight programs in the nation with 42-plus wins each of the last two years.

In nine seasons as a head coach, including seven at College of Charleston (2009-15) and two at Clemson (2016,17), Lee has a 362-186 record (.661), nine winning seasons and six NCAA Tournament appearances. According to the Clemson Athletic Communications Department, Lee has 42-plus wins each of the last four seasons, one of only four head coaches in the nation who can make that claim. Paul Mainieri (Louisiana State), Dan McDonnell (Louisville) and Jim Schlossnagle (TCU) are the others.

Dan Heefner (Dallas Baptist), Mike Martin (Florida State) and Kevin O’Sullivan (Florida) join the other four who have 40-plus wins each of the last four years, meaning Lee is one of only seven head coaches in the nation with 40-plus wins each of the last four years.

In his first season at Clemson, Lee directed the Tigers to the 2016 ACC Championship by going 4-0 against four regional teams in the ACC Tournament at Durham, N.C. It was Clemson’s first ACC title since 2006 and was a big reason the Tigers earned the No. 7 national seed in the NCAA Tournament, the first time they hosted a regional since 2011.

They followed that with a 42-win season in 2017, marking the first time Clemson amassed 40-plus wins in back-to-back years since 2010 and 2011, and hosted a regional for the second year in a row.

The 2017 squad was ranked in the top 10 for 10 straight weeks and finished the year ranked No. 22 in the coaches poll. The Tigers were also ranked in the top 25 during all 19 weeks, extending the program’s streak to 26 weeks from 2016 to 2017. In all, Lee’s Tigers have been ranked in the top 25 in 33 of the 38 polls, including 33 of the last 35 polls, during his two seasons in Tigertown.

I love the payback to AU. What a bunch of jerks that program is. Top to bottom a bunch of bad apples in the program.

That's what Awbarn gets for unscrupulously poking the bear.
Is Dabo and team using this as further motivation to demolish this program?.... plus whatever badmouthing they've been doing of the real Tigers to sway recruits' minds.

With the Auburn fans being scattered, I think we Clemson fans need to remember to treat these scattered fans kindly. They're still guests in our house, and we have a reputation to uphold.

Remember that commending letter written by a Louisville official about his wonderful visit here in 2014? Link: http://www.courier-journal.com/story...tter/18528237/

...... or this other Louisville fan's account of his experience as well: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.car...-spike-petrino

...... or this one from a BC fan: https://www.bcinterruption.com/bosto...-trip-report#0

Given our recent heightened success, I think it's imperative that we as a fan base never forget who we are. I'd be disgusted if we ever turned into those obnoxious Bama snobs.

It would be interesting to find out where these folks are being put. I hear big level Auburn donors would love to spread throughout TDB, UA, and B.

That and TDI, TDK, and TDT, Rows TT through ZZ.

I was one of those spread out Clemson fans last year down at Auburn, but the Auburn fans in front of us and behind us were some of the nicest opposing fans I've ever met at a football game. Let's return the favor even if they are spread all over the place!

I wish salaries for regular jobs worked the same way it does for coaches. I am a big fan of Coach Lee but why a new contract after one year?
