According to the NY Times there were 907 yesterday, which is about the same as it was in early November.

The tweet was about the total on April 4th. Here is another source that confirms that low number on the 4th. Yesterday the 6th the rate was higher but the trend is certainly there.

Here in Michigan the positive cases are spiking like crazy. Deaths are heading up and the hospitals are warning about ICUs filling up again. Nothing major has changed with regard the people’s behavior (the state is not fully open like Texas). I can only think it’s the folks that traveled for spring break and/or these more contagious variants. My family will get our 1st Pfizer shots tomorrow.

The funny thing is Gov Whitmer always proclaimed she would follow the science, but hasn’t had a press conference in almost 3 weeks. In the past a spike like this she would have been reversing course and locking things down. Instead she’s encouraging the schools to stay open for face to face. I guess she changed her science once the federal money got approved.

There a lot of things right now pointing to things trying to get back to normal. We need normal. Our mental health needs it more than anything.

There was a spike in deaths a couple days ago, but when you look closer at the data, it was primarily due to Oklahoma reporting 1700 deaths in one day....which was likely deaths that were mischaracterized last year.
As people continue to get immunized, I’d expect a dead cat bounce in infections....I think as the vulnerable quit dying, more and more people will drop the precautions they were taking before...but hopefully that will be very short lived and will actually contribute to herd immunity.
