Default Camp Offer Eval - 2017 LB/S Stuart Head

Clemson, UNC, Duke, Vanderbilt and California have offered the 6-foot-4, 190-pound prospect, who's classified as a safety by 247.

Right now, Head fits the bill for the big, lengthy type of safety we've seen Brent Venables bring in to Clemson, guys like Jayron Kearse, T.J. Green, Jeff Gibson and Tanner Muse.

Exactly where Head will end up when he gets to the next level will depend on his physical development over the next two years, and, of course, where he actually signs to play college ball. System fit will also have a role. With his size and frame, Head could play outside linebacker or safety at the next level.

At Etowah High School in Woodstock, Ga., Head plays free safety and quarterback. On film, he appears to fit the bill as a safety, with a blend of size and spend that's complemented by good instincts and ball skills.

Head has explosive closing speed, whether he's zeroed-in on a ball carrier to make the tackle or closing in on a receiver to breakup a pass. One way to describe it is that he's sudden. Head is also a sure tackler, has really good technique there.

While at Clemson's one-day camp, Head worked out with Venables and the linebackers.

From this perspective, Head could fit in at Clemson as a hybrid defender, sort of in the way Venables has utilized Kearse: Lined up as a deep safety on first- and second-down, brought into the box as a pass rusher on third-down and obvious passing situations.

The safety position will be a big-time need for Clemson's class of 2017 with Travis Blanks, Korrin Wiggins, Jadar Johnson, Kearse and Green all on track to be gone at the conclusion of the 2016 season.

Is Denzel Johnson an option for safety as we thin out a little next year or after 2016? I'm not predicting it, but if someone like Kearse really shines this year maybe there is an outside chance he tests the draft. Maybe.

To be determined. I don't think they're certain where Johnson will get his first look.

He could play a few different positions, safety being one of them. But I also think he could play cornerback.

Wide receiver, of course, is another option.
