Default 4-run fifth inning cost Tigers in loss to Oakland

Oakland scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning Saturday at the Diamond 9 Citrus Classic in Kissimmee, Fla., to down Clemson, 4-2. It was the Tigers third game in the tournament which is being held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

The Golden Grizzles scored four runs on four hits in the fifth inning to earn the victory. Clemson falls to 8-7 on the season with the loss. The Tigers play Stetson at 3:30 p.m., in their second came on Saturday.

Clemson scored its runs in the bottom of the fourth and the seventh innings. Alia Logoleo drove in the first run with a single up the middle to score Valerie Cagle. That gave Clemson a 1-0 lead at the time.

Cagle got an RBI in the bottom of the seventh inning when she reached on a fielder's choice with one out to score JoJo Haytt.

Cagle suffered the loss in a relief effort for starter Emma Whitfield, who was making her first career start.

In all, Clemson left nine runners on base as they compiled 10 hits overall as a team. Grace Mattimore, Marissa Guimbarda, MK Bonamy and Logoleo each had two hits in the losing effort.
