Dabo won the division in 2009, his first full season. That was the first taste of success.
Quote:
Prior to that season, he was just 19-15 overall, and had already had the following investments made during his tenure:
-Kevin Steele hired away from his role as Alabama DC
-Indoor practice facility announced
-Chad Morris hired as OC

Steele was not the DC at Alabama, as we have already covered. Saban had already promoted Smart into the play calling, and Steele was the "Assistant Head Coach of Defense".
Chad Morris was paid $450k as OC his first year at Clemson. That was 2011, not 2009. Napier was the OC in 2009, an internal promotion carried over from the previous staff.
The indoor practice facility was announced by 2011, but was still on paper.
And what you fail to notice is it only took one season of mediocrity for Dabo to make sweeping changes to the program. We just finished year 13 and we are still waiting on Brownell to fix issues that have been hallmarks of his program since year one.
Quote:
Each of these were notable investments by our AD before Dabo had accomplished anything of note as our head coach.
And on top of that, we already had one of the best supported football programs in the ACC to begin with, before these program enhancements.

No we weren't. We were just starting to play catch-up from the austerity of the 1990s under Bobby Robinson. Stuff that Tommy Bowden pushed for. Hell, we weren't all that far removed from still having the antiquated crown on the field from the triple option days.
And once again, your timeline is incorrect.
Quote:
As you can see, the notion that Dabo proved himself before we provided substantial investments in the program is incorrect.

I hate to be a broken record but your timeline is incorrect. As I told someone else last week, you can have your own opinion liek everyone else but you can;t make up your own facts.

I know it pains some of you who want to act like Dabo worked for scraps and bootstrapped his way to building an elite program at Clemson without much help, but it’s simply not true.

Let me know when your hero Mr Mediocrity gives up his own salary to better the program.

This isn’t to take away from Dabo’s enthusiasm as a young coach, his ability to inspire others, or the great decisions he eventually made in assembling his staff. He’s an incredible coach, but his success here wouldn’t have happened if the administration and fans weren’t “all in” to provide him with a high level of support.
|
Strange how we went 19 years without the administration and fans being "All In" to all of a sudden they were. It's called leadership, something our basketball program has lacked for over a decade.
Quote:
And that’s precisely the point with our basketball program. It’s ludicrous to expect Brownell or any other coach to have consistent success here without a substantial investment made by the AD and fans. If a coach like Dabo, and a sport like football, needed that high level commitment, you better believe basketball does to have any shot at being a consistent NCAA Tournament team. I believe it’s very possible here, but we have to do better. I’m encouraged that it’s happening under Neff’s watch.

As I pointed out earlier Brownell has been better supported than any basketball coach in recent history and still has only surpassed the worst coach in 50 years. Ellis, Barnes, and Purnell only wished that they had the support that Brownell has been given while here and they all surpass Brownell in actual tangible results. Again, you can have your own opinion but you can't create your own facts.
