Just finished up my first day at Spartanburg High School for Shrine Bowl practice. It's probably one of the nicest days I've experienced during a Shrine Bowl practice.
I spent most of the morning watching the North Carolina wide receivers: Clemson commitment Cornell Powell and target Diondre Overton.
Powell is the only Clemson pledge on the North Carolina team. Sean Pollard wanted to play in the game, but he had to back out. His brother is getting married on Saturday and he's the best man.
Powell is returning kicks and punts for the North Carolina team. On offense, from what I saw today, he's going to be doing a lot of work from the slot. Even saw him lined up in the backfield as a running back on some plays.
He and Overton were with each other pretty much every step of the way when they weren't on the field. They're good buddies, have known each other for a while. So, as you might imagine, that works in Clemson's favor.
Overton is down to Clemson and NC State and he still plans to make an announcement in January at the Semper Fi All-American game. He was wearing a pair of Clemson gloves during this morning's practice.
This afternoon, I'll spend more time around the South Carolina team, which includes Tavien Feaster and John Simpson, plus Cade Stewart and Jayson Hopper
Simpson is working at left tackle, and it seems like it's taking a little bit of getting used to. At Fort Dorchester, he played left guard.
Stewart, the Daniel prospect who took a few visits to Clemson during the fall, is playing left guard.
Hopper was working primarily out of the slot when I saw the South Carolina team period.
