I think it would have been better for the ACC to have taken less money from ESPN in 2019 for an extension time way less than 9 yrs. With inflation and all, thereís no way the conference can survive on this media rights deal thru 2036.

Lot of talk from the ACC and the ADs about this issue, but seems the reality is that nothing is going to improve the situation unless something drastic happens, such as kicking out schools that don't bring anything to the table, having a group of schools try to break the grant of rights and leave the ACC, or adding a name brand such as ND, all of which seem unlikely.

In other words, as long as the ACC is formulated as it is now, the issue will remain as there too many ACC schools which are net losses from a value standpoint and are not in a position to contribute to the conference's football value at a level equivalent to what they are taking in distributions. Not an easy fix for that.

In hindsight adding all these northeast basketball schools to expand the footprint maybe has left the core ACC schools with questionable added market value. Although I suppose itís hard to say from the outside. You do have to wonder if ESPN saw significant value from those smaller and/or pro sports markets to actually agree to a bigger contract during the 2019 contract extension negotiations.
