Default What’s the latest eligibility status for Clemson transfers?

Just wanted to give you guys an update on what is going on with transfers Nick Honor and Khavon Moore as they try to become eligible for the 2019-’20 basketball season.

The Clemson Insider has spoken with a few of our sources and this is what we have learned.

Moore’s case has gone into the appeals process. From what we understand he has hired a lawyer who is working hard with Clemson’s compliance to try and get the transfer from Texas Tech eligible for this season.

Our sources feel pretty good that Moore can win his appeal because the NCAA has already granted eight other student-athletes eligibility with similar cases to Moore’s.

As for Honor, we were told it did not look like he would be cleared to play this season. However, some new developments have come about in the last week and now there is a 50-50 chance he could be granted eligibility for this season.

Honor, a sophomore, transferred to Clemson from Fordham where he started all 32 games at guard and led his team with 15.3 points per game. He also averaged 3.0 assists per game. He made 70 three-pointers.

Moore is a 6-8, 217-pound sophomore from Macon, Ga., who transferred to Clemson from Texas Tech, where he played just two minutes all season after returning from an injury.

The guard/forward came out of high school as the No. 43 ranked player by ESPN.com.

The Tigers open the season on Nov. 5 against Virginia Tech at Littlejohn Coliseum in Clemson.

My expectations for this team are drastically different if they are both eligible. They could be the difference between an ncaa tourney team and a fringe NIT squad.

Will, for those 8 other similar cases, did they get eligibility after an appeal or were they granted right up front? It seems like the need for an appeal process would already be an indication of a low chance he gets eligible this season.

If he has hired a lawyer he is getting eligible.

This is what I’m hoping.

I think that is a fair assessment. I still think making the NCAA tourney with both eligible will be tough, but I think it is all but impossible this year without them.

This team should make the NIT regardless, though. It would be a disappointing season if they don't.

Not exactly sure, but from what I can understand it sounded as if they were granted without the appeal.

It sounds like another example of how the NCAA is all over the map on their treatment of the exemptions and enforcement of their rules.

Absolutely! All you have to do is look at Justin Fields' situation at Ohio State to realize there is something fishy about how the NCAA justifies exemptions for the transfer rule.
