Default Dabo Swinney Camp Notebook: Session 2, Final Workout

The 2019 Dabo Swinney Football Camp wrapped up with one final workout Thursday morning.

The Clemson Insider was on hand for part of the workout. Here are some news and notes from what we observed:

-- The final camp workout featured a standout defensive tackle in the 2022 class, Khurtiss Perry from Montgomery (Ala.) Park Crossing. The 6-foot-3, 255-pound rising sophomore has offers from Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and others.

Perry was shown a lot of love by the coaches. He was chauffeured into the camp in a golf cart by Brad Scott, then greeted immediately by defensive tackles coach Todd Bates. They spent a good bit of time talking and walking through drills individually prior to the workout. Bates introduced Perry to defensive coordinator Brent Venables, and defensive ends coach Lemanski Hall came over a few minutes later to introduce himself. Clemson defensive tackle Xavier Kelly also walked over to chop it up with Perry, who spoke with defensive player development coach Miguel Chavis as well.

-- A group of prospects from the Tampa, Florida, area stopped by Clemson to participate in this morning’s workout as part of a bus tour to different schools. The group includes a pair of notable receivers in the 2022 class – Greg Gaines from Tampa Bay Tech and Xavier Townsend from Berkeley Prep.

Gaines has offers from Penn State, Indiana, Southern Miss and Western Kentucky, while Townsend was compared to former Clemson star Ray-Ray McCloud by a person close to him at the camp that we spoke to.

The Tampa prospects camped at Georgia and Georgia Tech on Wednesday, will be at South Carolina this afternoon and Florida on Tuesday.

-- Other receivers that camped today worth noting were Brendan Petrie, a 2021 prospect from Indianapolis (Ind.) Brebeuf Jesuit Prep, Sean Dungan, a 2022 prospect from Bloomingdale High, and Levi Matthews, a 2022 prospect from Raleigh (N.C.) Sanderson.

-- Norfolk (Va.) Lake Taylor 2021 prospect Malik Newton worked out with the linebackers this morning after working out with the running backs earlier this week.

Newton, who is listed as a running back by the recruiting services, has offers from South Carolina, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Nebraska, Texas A&M, Virginia, Virginia Tech and others.

-- Among the defensive backs working out this morning was Quintin Talley, a local 2020 prospect from Duncan (S.C.) Byrnes. One well-built linebacker that caught our eye from a physical standpoint was Cruz Temple, a 2021 prospect from Abbeville (S.C.)

-- Loganville (Ga.) Grayson 2021 four-star running back Phil Mafah, who we mentioned earlier this week, was back for the final workout. He competed at the full three-day second session.

We will have a lot more on some of the top prospects that camped at Clemson this week so stay tuned to TCI.
