Default Who will have the better defense? Clemson or Bama

There has been a lot of talk about what Clemson lost on defense. Bama lost a good bit up front as well and got torn up by the Tigers last year.

Which team will have the better defense this year?

I vote Clemson and not because I'm a homer

The facts so far: Bama has lost to transfer and injury what would have been two starting linebackers.

My opinion: The secondary is going to be better for them but still may be their weakest point. The DL lost Williams and I'm not high on Buggs unless he decided to get into shape. He good for the first half but he seems extremely slow in our game.

Overall: Not know what Bama is bringing back at DL and with our DL being new, I think its a tossup. I think we are better at LB although I do think Moses is the best of the bunch. We are easily better in the secondary.

Conclusion: Clemson will have the better D

All else being roughly equal, I'll give the nod to Brent Venables.

Rebuilding is what the man does.

We may look out of sorts a little in September, but BV will mold them into a powerhouse throughout the season. By game 15, the Clemson D will look like it has over the past 5 years or so... just different names on the jerseys.

Bama will do the same, but not as deep and not as good in the secondary. I give the nod to the Tigers, also because of BV and the continuity with the coaching staff.

Early in the season, it's Bama. They have some monsters : Dylan Moses, Anfrenee Jenngs, Terrell Lewis, Trevon Diggs, Xavier McKinney and Raekwon Davis. All are high draft picks next year.

I think Tigers have a chance to be as good as Bama, depending on how our DL improves throughout the season.

But If I had pick a better defense in preseason, I would pick Bama.

I give Clemson the nod because of Venables. However, FYI, Bama does return 7 starters on defense, but four of those seven are on the back end of the defense. The injured linebacker was not a returning starter, but he was expected to start.
