2 quick observations from that list.

1. The 9-6 Alabama vs LSU game was one of the most boring games on history. People complained about that game for weeks after.

2. Clemson and Alabama played in the 2016 CFP Championship. Not the 2017.

Point one: could not agree more

Point two: I get where you are coming from and I agree with the notion you are pushing. However the CFP people have decided to name the game based on the calendar year the game is played in, rather than the season year which the game represents.

It is stupid. Clemson was the 1981 national champion, but they won it on January 1st, 1982

Clemson has played in the 2016, 2017, and 2019 championship games- based on the date on the trophies. I personally don't care if they play February 1st, they win the championship of the season (which was the previous year)

Marketing ... psssh

And to your point, I’ve seen it both ways (both years) on merchandise for the same Champion so we are not the only that does get the confusion.

Agreed with point No. 1, that game was a major disappointment after being hyped up to the extreme leading up to it.

It's not confusing to me. The year you win the National Championship is the season (1981, 2016 and 2018).

Clemson won the 1982 Orange Bowl, though. Just like they won the 2017 and 2019 CFP National Championship Games (which the NCAA views as bowl games, btw).

The NFL's Super Bowl is marked this way too. The Steelers won Super Bowl XLIII in Feb. of 2009, but they are called World Champions for the 2008 season.

I know it’s small but it’s always kind of irked me too. The year in with 95% of the season takes place should be the year it’s called.

I'm not sure the distinction of year of the game versus the year of the season is too important. The stock market has dropped over 1,000 points since last week. That matters a bit more to me.

With all due respect, I don't come to TCI to discuss economics or fret over them. Every huge drop on Wall Street has always been followed by another high- the only unknown is when it will get back.

Between the two topics, the one that is more relevant to this site is the discussion of the 2016 and 18 championships.

Sorry for your losses
