Re: Kanell with another reason to expand the CFP
Because the expansion as proposed would simply serve to load the box with SEC teams. It is also silly to compare football and baseball given the differences. The biggest is the difficulity adding games given the physical nature of football.
there are plenty of options for expansion but the powers that be have no interest in expansion unless it fits their agenda

Nice try, Danny. If you attended college and played football in a university in the Big Ten, Big 12, Pac 12, or ACC I could take you seriously.

I think so but why would a view from someone who played 15ish years ago be more valid that anyone else?

Underdogs in football are not the same as baseball. In today's world, no #8 seed (or lower) is going to beat Alabama or whomever is #1 at the time, much less, run the table.

What's the margin of victory in the semi-finals? These games haven't been great. Aside from the almighty dollar, I dont think we need to expand the playoffs.

No reason to expand it ,EXCEPT they've killed the Bowls by having 40 plus of them and WILL expand the Playoff to drive back up the $$$ and viewership.

It would not be hard to make the bowls relevant if they wanted. Instead of a haphazard maze of bowl tie in and super uninteresting matchups they could schedule games in a smart way to have compelling matchups.
For example, App St vs UNC or Coastal vs UofSC. Maybe not all of the matchups would be compelling but we could come a lot closer by killing the tie ins and working toward a compelling matchup.

It was meant to be, until I realized he went to FSU. If he went to an SEC School, I would assume some bias on his part as Ken suggested.

I actually would prefer an 8-team playoff with conference champions automatically getting guaranteed entry. The other three would be at-large. Of course, that might lead to four SEC teams getting in, but it also might be the difference between Clemson getting in and Clemson not getting in. This will ensure the regular season and conference championship mattered.
The format wouldn’t matter if Clemson played in a better conference, but the ACC continues to be a ball and chain around our neck.

With an 8 team Playoff, GUARANTEE one spot for the Top finishing Group of five team and you at least cut down the number of SEC teams

Then if an indy makes it in (like ND) that would be max 1 extra sec team. Also give an easier team for 1 seed to play.

The G5 teams play for the same championship as P5 teams so why would their Conference champions not get a seat at the table instead of the SEC runner up?
This would also require the elimination of the Conference Championship game or a regular season game to keep the max at 15 games.

Got it. Kanell is typically one of the few that tries to push back on the SEC, so it is surprising he doesn’t acknowledge the expansion would just open spots for SEC second tier teams vs. opening up the playoffs other conferences.
