Otherwise know as BCS 2.0. Instead of a computer deciding who will be in the CPL, it will be a selection committee.

Just a way for them to get half the SEC in the playoff

I agree!! I wish they could find a way to not have preseason rankings. It's so subjective and speculative and obviously biased. Definitely puts many climbing up the rankings. Maybe start rankings after 1st 5 games or so.

With SEC probably having more teams in, they'll just get richer, even as the entire conference. Wish they could spread earnings to all a little more evenly. With this and NIL getting more exposure, I don't see how SEC won't pull away and it'll be SEC on top by far and then maybe a handful of other teams here and there.

First round byes are a crime against fair play.

This is nothing more than a beauty pageant for football programs, and the prettiest four get extra time to prepare and heal up.

They said the playoff would allow the champion to be determined on the field, yet we're still letting a committee decide who gets the easy road.

This is football. Man up and play the same number of games.

Terrible plan. This is why you don’t mess with something that works. Talk about one extreme to the other.

Actually, Independents play fewer games already, by avoiding conference Championship games. I’m looking at you, Notre Dame.

Could be wrong, have been before, but I see the first round byes as a way of preventing the 4 that would have been there anyways from having to play more than one extra game in their Let's Save The Dying Bowls Beauty Pageant. How much of Slaughter was first round 1 against 12 and 2 against 11 gonna be, while still risking injuries on the Top 2 teams ? It adds just one more game for the 4 that would have been there against some outside the Top 4, while making the everyone gets a ribbon teams play 2 extra games .

Do they need expanding ? Not really, but this, if the ND rule sticks is bout the best you could hope for

If The ND rule sticks, hope it also sticks for every team not in their conference championship game

Rule in there if it sticks, that teams like ND wouldn't get a Top 4 bye.

Hot...Garbage. That's what this will be. It eliminates the importance of the regular season for some teams but not others, it gives a huge advantage to some teams that get a bye, it creates bad incentives for scheduling, and it further reinforces the dumb notion that teams are good or bad based on their reputation and the reputation of the conference they're in, and based on the fantastic bullshit called the "eye test" which is just a way to justify a team being ranked based on the name on the jersey.

Hot...Garbage.

UCF, and teams like them, is the reason we can't have a perfectly simple and elegant 8 team bracket with power 5 conference champions and 3 at-large teams.

I haven't truly liked the ACC basketball tournament since FSU joined and created the "Larry Shyatt" play-in game.

The creation of the Mountain West conference ruined the previously perfect 64 bracket.

NCAA Doof 1: We've got a new automatic qualifier, do we drop an at-large?
NCAA Doof 2: Why throw away an entire fan-base worth of viewers? Let's just let the lowest two multi-directional schools play for the 64th spot.

This is a cash grab by the BCS/Playoff people in an attempt to placate the perpetually "left out" groups, and give them (as many have said) a participation trophy.

I concur with Gvegas... Hot...Garbage
