WTH??? Coaches deserve all the money they make for having to deal with this garbage. Players need to have options but they shouldn't be unlimited options for any reason with no consequences.

Yeah that one is a head scratcher. I donít have a clue what the reasoning behind it is other than the way the way the defense shifts fresh bodies in and out. No idea.. He stated he doesnít want to be contacted, but we heard Daboís thoughts on the portal so this is a truly surprising move by Shaq. Best wishes to the young man. He will graduate a Tiger.

Maybe someone was closing the gap and he was worried about playing time, idk just guessing at this point. Wow Iím really shocked. He played well last year and I thought this would be his break out year.

This one hurts. He will have two years to play.

This is surprising and a bummer but we will be fine depth-wise:

SAM/Nickle
Isaiah Simmons
Mike Jones Jr

MIKE
Chad Smith
Jake Venables

WILL
Jamie Skalski
Baylon Spector

This doesnít even take into account the five (5) LB we have coming in as freshman.

And also remember Clemson had to re-recruit him after he decommitted from us and ending up recommitting. Huge waste of time.

Makes no sense when heís in the position he was in PT wise.

Certainly a bit of a surprise. Was he a firm starter? Hes sort of like Feaster in that huge expectations but never really got to that point. Feaster was not the starter so opportunity was perhaps what he is seeking. He has not really said so and hes supposed to graduate.

If he was supposed to start thats a head scratcher. But again he should be able to chose his path and even more so for graduates. Either we have some chinks in the armor that need addressing or all is well and next man up.

Wow, did not expect this.

Next man up. Jones and young Venables, and a few others gotta step up. The schedules sets up for them to grow quickly

I suspect that is the case. With two years of eligibility and the ability to immediately play in the Fall, the time would be now to decide (rather than just hop somewhere for a final season). It's the new landscape, but if coaches can leave while making millions, I'm glad there are opportunities for the players to control their own destinies.

Does LB recruiting strategy change now? I thought it was Flowe Iíd bust, but does this open the door to take Simpson?

Da fuq? Total bummer. Need details bc this young man looked fantastic and was primed for a serious breakout season as a potential high draft pick if he takes another step forward. He was one of the players I was very much looking forward to this year. Was this less about football and more about something else?

Attrition has always been expected in our 20-22 total number for the class. This changes nothing.

We have six (6) scholarship LB currently on roster*
We have five (5) freshman LB coming in the summer

A total number of 11 going into the season is more than enough.

We will lose Chad Smith as a senior and likely Simmons to the NFL.

We have two (2) commitments from LB

As you stated, a 5-star like Flowe is oversign worthy but I do not see us adding additional targets.

* The numbers above do not include walk-on LB Regan Upshaw who, I believe, earned a scholly last season

He's never looked like he's grasped the defense nor has he played sufficient snaps to call this a loss. Certainly a bust up to this point, but we're fine at LB. It can't be a PT issue because he was certainly lined up for an opportunity this year.

Agree with hawfrostís comment and fchrisgrimmís. I will also add that since he has asked for other teams not to contact him that he has a pretty good idea on where he wants to go. It will be interesting to see where he will end up and if there was any discussion that lead to this decision.

I can only think of 2 reasons for this kind of time frame. It's either a family issue or he got into some trouble. You'd think if he didn't like where he stood after spring he would have entered the portal literally after spring. By no means am I saying he got into trouble I'm just saying the time frame fits for someone with either family issues or got into some kind of trouble. Shaq was a big leader and an ambassador for everything Clemson. He loved Clemson and you could tell he loved Clemson whether through interviews or the videos posted on twitter by the Clemson social media department. His teammates loved him and I saw him as a Christian Wilkins type with the big personality and someone the younger guys looked up to. Thats why I gave the 2 reasons because any other reason just doesn't make sense. He was in line for a starting job on a team looking to go back to back. He has waited for 4 years to get to this spot and now he is just going to leave, just doesn't jive. I hope it has nothing to do with getting in trouble and I hope everything is fine with his family but I just can't fathom another reason to this right now. Just weird.

Probably shouldn’t disparage a kid on his way out the door by speculating.

The reason will come out once his decision is revealed.

Good luck to Shaq in whatever he chooses. He’s been a great representative for Clemson in his time here.

this has the "Mike Locksley" stench to it...back at Maryland talking to the family....I can only imagine the bill of goods he sold Shaq's family.

Perhaps I am off base and Shaq left of his own accord due to the depth chart, but this just seems to have tampering by a recruiter known to push the boundaries on what's legal.

I would be shocked if he didn't end up at Maryland...
