We'll have plenty of information coming your way over the next several days, but I wanted to pass along a couple of quick tidbits for y'all on this lovely Saturday evening, now that I'm back in the 864.
First, a picture:
From left to right: Sean Pollard, J.C. Chalk, Cornell Powell and Diondre Overton.
Now, the story behind it...
We set up the shot right before the camp as Chalk and Pollard were talking with me and other reporters. They waved down Powell to come over for a Clemson commit shot. Overton, who was talking with Powell some 25 feet away, was also summoned.
Before the picture, either Pollard or Chalk -- not exactly sure who it was -- but one of them said to Overton, "This is a family picture. You can only get in it if you're in the family.
"Are you going to be in the family?"
Overton's response, "Probably."
Whether or not he makes good on that probably, obviously, remains to be seen. But during our chat, which was about 20 minutes before the picture was taken, Overton told TCI plenty of positive things, as it relates to his relationship with Clemson.
Among the most intriguing factors in play right now is where he stands on the Clemson recruiting board. As we noted the other day, Overton is the final wide receiver that Clemson is pursuing in 2016. And that means a lot to him. Tennessee remains a factor. Michigan, his latest offer, also piques his interest. As does Boston College.
Overton will visit Clemson in June for the Dabo Swinney Football Camp.
Also planning to get down to Clemson this summer is five-star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence. The 2016 prospect from Wake Forest (NC) has visited Clemson just one other time. That was in 2013 for the season opener against Georgia.
Along with Clemson, Lawrence plans to take visits to Arkansas, Ole Miss and Alabama. His most recent visit was the UNC.
After Saturday's event, Lawrence picked up an invite to The Opening. He'll head to Oregon alongside Pollard. And you can be certain that Pollard will be in his ear while they're at the annual event.
Lawrence didn't offer a list of favorites or a leader, but did say there are 17 schools that have recruited him pretty hard so far. Clemson is in that group.
In the spring of his freshman year, Lawrence picked up his first offer from Robbie Caldwell.
We'll have more from Overton, Lawrence, the Clemson commitments and several other prospects, including Stephen Davis Jr.
