Default The Insider Report

It is time for this week’s edition of The Insider Report.

We hope everyone had a great weekend. It was a fun, cold one for those that made the trip to Carter-Finley Stadium to watch the Tigers whip the Pack.

Huge Official Visit Weekend

This coming weekend will be a big one for Clemson on the recruiting front, as the Tigers are set to host most of their commitments in the 2021 class that are planning to enroll early in January. The list of future Tigers expected to be on campus includes five-star defensive linemen Bryan Bresee, Demonte Capehart and Myles Murphy, along with four-star linebackers Sergio Allen and Kevin Swint, four-star offensive linemen Mitchell Mayes and Paul Tchio, four-star wide receiver E.J. Williams and safety Tyler Venables.

Clemson will also welcome at least one uncommitted official visitor to campus this weekend: Upland (Calif.) five-star linebacker Justin Flowe, who previously visited Clemson in late July for the All In Cookout.

Flowe took the first of his four consecutive planned official visits to Miami last weekend for its game vs. Louisville. Following his official to Clemson, he is scheduled to officially visit Georgia for its game vs. Texas A&M on Nov. 23 and then Oregon for its game vs. Oregon State on Nov. 30.

Heading into the weekend, the Tigers remain the clear team to beat for Flowe, who is expected to sign in December.

Latest on Jordan Burch

One of Clemson’s few other priority targets in the 2020 class, Columbia (S.C.) Hammond School five-star defensive end Jordan Burch, was in Tuscaloosa last weekend as an official visitor for the Bama-LSU game. Two weekends earlier, he took his first official visit to LSU when they played Auburn.

Burch keeps his recruitment very close to the vest, although he did release his top five schools (Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, LSU and South Carolina) via Twitter on Oct. 28.

Burch has not disclosed any upcoming visit plans. But if he is going to use his final three official visits before the season ends, it is reasonable to think he could take an official visit to Clemson this weekend before officially visiting Georgia for its final home game vs. Texas A&M the following weekend and then South Carolina for its final home game vs. Clemson on Nov. 30. Both Georgia and South Carolina have away games this weekend.

Like Flowe, Burch last visited Clemson for the All In Cookout. We will see if he joins Flowe in Tigertown again this weekend.

Top 2021 WR Heading to Clemson

A couple of top Clemson targets in the 2021 class are also planning to visit this weekend. One of those is Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Cardinal Gibbons wide receiver Troy Stellato.

It will mark Stellato’s first visit to Clemson. The speedy prospect that has been clocked at 4.4 in the 40-yard dash received an offer from the Tigers in early October after Jeff Scout scouted him during one of his games.

Stellato told us he has been communicating regularly and starting to build a relationship with Scott, and he is excited to meet Clemson’s staff on Saturday as well as see a game environment in Death Valley and check out the facilities.

Stellato, who lists well over two dozen offers, said he has narrowed down his recruitment to six or seven programs right now, including Clemson, Ohio State, Alabama and LSU. In late October, he announced a top 12 that included those schools along with Georgia, Florida, Penn State, Kentucky, North Carolina, Duke, Nebraska and Southern Cal.

So far this season, Stellato has visited Ohio State and Alabama, while he is planning to check out LSU too when those Tigers play Texas A&M on Nov. 30. Stellato said he has no timeline for his decision but won’t delay his commitment if there’s no need to.

“My whole plan was to kind of wait on my recruitment, but there’s really no point in doing that,” he said. “If I know where I want to go, then I’ll pull the trigger with that.”

5-star Returns to Death Valley

We have also confirmed that five-star all-purpose back Will Shipley of Matthews (N.C.) Weddington is planning to be at Clemson on Saturday for the Wake Forest game.

Shipley earned Clemson’s first offer to a running back in the 2021 class in July, a month after working out at the Dabo Swinney Camp for the second straight summer. This will be his second visit to Clemson this season, as he also attended the Texas A&M game Sept. 7.

Shipley most recently visited Alabama for the LSU game last Saturday after going to Ohio State for the Wisconsin game Oct. 26. He has also been to Notre Dame, NC State, North Carolina and Virginia this season.

Shipley, the son of two NC State alums, has been considered a big Notre Dame lean, and a source told us recently that he thought Shipley would end up there. However, there is still a ways to go in this recruitment as unless something changes, Shipley doesn’t plan to start narrowing things down until after this season.

Streeter Sees 2021 QB

Clemson quarterbacks coach Brandon Streeter traveled to Hebron Christian Academy in Dacula, Georgia, on Friday night to scout 2021 quarterback Colten Gauthier, who threw three touchdown passes with one interception in a loss to Athens Academy.

Streeter was not allowed to speak with Gauthier at the game due to NCAA rules, though Gauthier told us that his head coach – former longtime Indianapolis Colts center and six-time Pro Bowl selection Jeff Saturday – met with Streeter for about an hour before the game.

Gauthier has visited Clemson twice this season for the Texas A&M and FSU games. His offer list includes South Carolina, Virginia Tech, UCF, Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech and Syracuse among others.

Going into Friday’s game, Gauthier had 1,825 yards passing and 15 passing touchdowns with seven interceptions along with 191 yards rushing and seven rushing scores.

The only uncommitted quarterback in the 2021 class with an offer from Clemson to date is five-star Caleb Williams of Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga.

The huge list of officials for this weekend is for 2020 commits, right? You have them as 2021 commits.
