Default OBSERVATIONS: Kaleb Chalmers and Gage Cervenka

Just getting back to the house after spending most of my day at Greenwood High School, where I watched Greenwood, Emerald, Seneca and Clinton scrimmage.

We'll have more from Chalmers and Cervenka over the weekend, but here are a few things I observed while watching the two 2015 commitments play in person.

In the scrimmage against Emerald, Chalmers lined up at free safety for Greenwood.

There was a two-play stretch about midway through the scrimmage that was particularly impressive. On the first play, Chalmers knocked the snot out of a wide receiver as he was trying to make a first-down catch on a hook route. On the following play, Chalmers did a good job of snuffing out a running back screen, stopping the guy just as his blockers were able to set up down field.

What was most impressive about Chalmers today was his willingness to hit. You see that on film, but it's always nice to see it show up when you're there in person.

A few plays after the aforementioned two-play stretch a hole opened up for Emerald's thunder running back. Chalmers quickly filled the space and braced himself for what turned out to be the best collision I saw today. Chalmers stood the guy up and held on until the rest of his teammates came in to help out. The Emerald sideline went nuts. Chalmers smiled at the guys woofing from the bench.

On the hoof, Cervenka is a good looking prospect. Not that it comes as a surprise (given his wrestling background), but there isn't anything sloppy about his weight, which is in the 270 range. You've got to think that he won't have much issue adding on more pounds once he gets to Clemson. He's got a pretty good frame to carry it. Dude's got long arms, too, and that's always a plus.

It took him a little while to get going in the Greenwood scrimmage, because they were throwing a lot of quick passes. But once they started to run the ball, he was able to be a little more disruptive.

Midway through, Cervenka had a quarterback pressure, which nearly led to an interception. It followed a run play where he did a good job of shedding a blocker, plugging a gap and eating up the running back for no gain.

There were times when Cervenka showed some pretty good get off, though it did hurt him on one zone-read play that left him grasping for air.

Not sure if he was getting frustrated or what, but Cervenka got hit with two offside penalties in a four-play stretch at end of the scrimmage. On the play after the second penalty, he split a double-team and recorded a sack.

That was the most impressive thing I saw from him all day, and not just because he got the sack. Despite the mental lapses, Cervenka was able to flush the mistakes and make a play for his team.

A person could get spoiled having this type of recruitment information on high school players.
