Desmond Howard calls out Watson, defense
“Wow … 2011, I got you. But people don’t remember 2011. But people think about last year and the expectations were so high,” Howard said in response to Herbstreit’s comment that Clemson is the best team in the country. “When I look at Deshaun Watson, he is one of my favorite quarterbacks just because of what he can do on the field, running and throwing. To me, he is a better passer than he is a runner. But when I watch him, week in and week out, he is still making almost like freshman-like mistakes. He is getting baited into interceptions that you just do not expect from Deshaun Watson. So for me, I need to see him play at a high level consistently.
“Defensively, when I watch Dalvin Cook, Florida State’s running back do … and he is an elite running back and there is no doubting that. He is a special talent. But they are supposed to have a special defense, too. I think their achilles heel may be their linebackers. They are good straight ahead, but as far as going east and west, sideline to sideline, Dalvin Cook turned the corner whenever he wanted to against that defense. I need to see the linebackers play a little better, too, from Clemson.”
