Go Birds!
Just find some Brian Dawkins gear and you’ll be fine.

I've never been there but would like to go. It gets a bad rap but obviously important history there. And of course the Rocky statue! Maybe drape a Clemson flag over it and take a picture for us? Lol

It gets a bad rap for a reason. It has become the new Detroit.

That's what I have heard but again, have never been there. I do know someone that loves Detroit but, just like Phily, overall it is apparently not the best.
Robert's daughter now has a chance to change it for the best!

Re: Guess I'll be spending time in Philly
Like a lot of cities Philadelphia had some good neighborhoods and some not-so-good ones.
I’ll ask my son-in-law. He is from Philadelphia.

From my son-in-law:
A lot of neighborhoods where younger folks live: Fishtown, Fairmount, Northern Liberties. Also some people live out in a nearby town called Manayunk.

Re: Guess I'll be spending time in Philly
I appreciate the feedback many of you have given. Turns out I knew a lot more people than I thought that knew some things about the area. Sounds like there are some good areas and some you definitely want to stay away from.
Best news I got from her today is her company is handling the move from Little Rock. That made my day.

My friend's daughter (Clemson Grad) moved to Philly and works in one of the Children's wards at a hospital as an RN. Her and her husband seem to really like it. We enjoyed our visit to Philly years ago, but as someone said, it's about what area you're in. Kind of like ATL has turned into.

I think you guys are underestimating the lack of love for Detroit. 🤨

I am sorry. This is utter nonsense and bull$hit.
Unless you have lived there for any length of time, you would have no idea.
I lived there most of my adult life and travel there regularly. Like any other city, it has its struggles... NYC, Chicago, Atlanta, Detroit, Charlotte, Austin, Los Angeles.
But it drives me nuts to see random comments like this thrown out without context. There are problems EVERYWHERE. There was a shooting situation within a school in Greenville County of all places.
No one or no place is immune.
Now, if you live within the city limits, I stand corrected.

Well said. I feel like some people just assume that big city = dangerous, and use stereotypes and random news stories to support their view.
Philadelphia is perfectly safe if you stay in the more tourist areas downtown. If Robert's daughter is living in the downtown area, there are many safe areas. If she is in the suburbs, there are plenty of nice suburbs that are safe and clean.
Philly is a fun city, with lots of good historical sites and some great restaurants. She will love it.

It really comes down to self-awareness. Making sure you avoid situations that would be considered less than ideal damn near anywhere in the world.

Ok… I have relatives who live in Philly… directly in the city itself in an old converted building into apartments. It has its good and bad spots like all cities.
I personally despise Atlanta. Been here for 30+ years in the burbs and seen the ATL devolve into a cesspool. You can’t park there without a high chance of getting a window smashed. I’ve had to replace 2 windows so I rarely go there and if I do, I take Uber.
I hear horror stories about Detroit, but I don’t have personal experience there. But the stereotype/reputation sounds a lot like Philly. I lived in Portland, OR for a year in the early 90s and it was nice. Visited it about 4 years ago and it had turned into a crap hole of a place. I’m not sure why these cities seem to decide that law and order is a bad thing. 🤔🤷*♂️

Re: Guess I'll be spending time in Philly
The winters are tough if you have lived in the south most of your life. They don’t have that “puffy” snow like out west.

This is straight up truth right here. Dark, dreary, desolate. But also can be fun from time to time. Unless you have to shovel it all.
