Default Change of plans for Zerrick Cooper

Cooper is in Gainesville today for Florida's Friday Night Lights camp.

Last night, Cooper told us that he was not going to attend the camp. He also informed the Clemson staff at one point earlier this week that he would not be down there.

We'll continue to monitor throughout the evening.

You at least have to expand the board and put feelers out. We kind of put all of our eggs in the Cooper basket though. Really aren't a ton of great options out there.

Here we go again. The staff certainly won't be pleased with this development. Hopefully it will workout like Ray Ray did last year. If you remember he took several visits to Florida even though he was committed to Clemson.

There are some outstanding 2017 and 2018 QB's out there that are high on Clemson.

I think you have to take a QB this year for depth purposes alone. Skipping a year and taking two hasn't bit us badly yet...but boy it has come close...(knock on wood). Can't afford to get caught with our pants down here.

I don't know all the details.."but" if he lied to the Clemson staff they'll cut ties.

If 2015 goes as well as most everybody expects, "pro" sports media included, I think we will have little problem getting some good recruits for 2017. All will want to follow in DW's shoes.

It is really a bad sign if he is outright lying to people. Sure, TCI isn't the same as the coaching staff, but I get the feeling he has lied to them also. That's an entirely different level of problem to me. Not being honest and upfront. It also makes me wonder what the Gators are saying and doing.

Remember Watson is back next year. At least one of the freshmen (Bryant and Israel) will redshirt, maybe both.

It's possible that he gave them the heads up before news broke this afternoon. I don't know, though, one way or another.

Long way to go before we start discussing that as a possibility.

Was tweeting with a friend....well, TwitterFriend....and he says Rivals reports that Cooper is "only going to help a friend."

Yep. Sounds exactly like the Ray Ray situation before. Maybe no reason to be alarmed unless he hasn't been honest like I said before.

Maybe nothing to it...but again if he wasn't up front with Dabo...the man will not blink an eye and move on. Remember his words ...It's a privelge to play, coach or even work at Clemson.

True, but QB is slightly different than other positions. Look at the situation that Chad Kelly put us in. Can we survive? Yes. But it wouldn't be ideal.

I consider the Ray Ray/Cooper situations to be very different.

Ohio St. was the exception but if you have to rely on a 3rd QB in any given year you should not be expected to do much. Right now we have 3 quality guys at the position that will all return next season. No reason to stress about a situation 2-3 years in advance.

True. That's not the issue though. You don't want your #2 to be a freshman if you can help it.

It will play itself out, hopefully for the best. All I am saying is that we better have an ace in the hole.

Just noticed his tweet to Xavier Kelly. You'd think he still considers himself in the "family". If he was honest with Swinney and coaches, then maybe so?

"@xavierkelly22 congrats bro welcome to the fam"

No need to panic. I'd but my left foot he wouldn't go without Dabo signing off on it. No info on why except to 'help a friend'. As is common among humans, in an information vacuum, bad information usually flows in first. Cooper is solid orange.

I disagree. 2-3 years in advance is when you want to worry about it because worrying about it when it happens is too late. This isn't the NFL where you can sign a free agent. Last year's QB concerns were a direct result of issues that happened 2-3-4 years before.

And evidently you forget exactly how close we were to needing to rely on a 3rd QB last year, and watching Cole gut through some of those games later in the year if we would have had a viable 3rd option at that time we probably would have.

And remember that at this point two years ago we weren't too concerned about QB depth. Circumstances change. Kids get hurt. Kids screw up and get dismissed. Kids get homesick. Kids get tired of sitting on the bench and seek playing time elsewhere.

Yep. Will spend plenty of time this weekend trying to gather them, that's for sure.
