Default Best sports nicknames

Mine, surprise!

"The Steel Curtain"

And they lived up to it -- Mean Joe Greene, Ernie Holmes, L.C. Greenwood and Dwight White. That is the Steel Curtain.

A lot of people get confused and think the whole Steelers' defense of the 1970s was the Steel Curtain, but it wasn't. It was that defensive line's nickname.

It is also the best nickname because the team's real nickname is inside it.

I am surprised Will even mentioned the Steelers.

Fordham was a football powerhouse many years ago. Their front seven played both ways and were known as "The Seven Blocks of Granite".

How about the "Chinese Bandits" at LSU in 1958? I loved that nickname. That was before platoon football really caught on. But I don't need to tell you that, right?
