i think it comes from their accent/voice inflections. Kind of like the "p" in clemson. Just helps people steer away from the "z" sound. Just guessing though.

I apologize for the judgement, but using a "p" when pronouncing Clemson really sounds like a moron that can't pronounce the word. It reminds me of people saying Pacific rather than specific.

I have pronounced every word correctly my entire life.

It's not accent or voice inflections, it's a different language. His last name is Samoan, not English. In Samoan "g" is pronounced as "ng".

Just like most people mispronounce Samoa and Samoan.

I was hoping the TV peeps would clear this up but just calling him "DJ" didnt help. The nation will know how it's pronounce by the time he's done tho...
