A pair of 2015 targets to keep in mind
Add Mark Fields and Denzel Johnson to the list of 2015 names to keep an eye on over the next several weeks.
Fields, a South Carolina commitment, was scheduled to visit Clemson on Saturday, but those plans fell through. I'm told that Clemson will have coaches by Hough High School to see Fields and Clemson commit Van Smith.
Not certain which coaches will be by the school, but Mike Reed is likely to make an appearance.
I get the sense that Fields is having some serious second thoughts about his decision to commit to South Carolina. This is a situation we are monitoring very closely.
Reed stopped by A.C. Flora High School in Columbia on Monday to see Denzel Johnson (6-2, 185), who received an offer from Clemson last fall.
Brent Venables was in touch with Johnson two weeks ago. Dabo Swinney spoke to him a week ago.
Clemson is pushing to have him in for an official in January. South Carolina is also in touch, but schools like Towson, Liberty and Georgia Southern are among those in the greatest pursuit. His first official visit is Thursday to Towson.
For now, Clemson is looking at Johnson as an athlete (wide receiver or defensive back).
