Default Dabo Swinney Camp Notebook: Session 2, Wednesday Morning

The second session of the Dabo Swinney Camp continued with another workout Wednesday morning.

The media was again allowed to watch the first four periods of the workout. Here are some news and notes from what The Clemson Insider observed:

-- Priority Clemson wide receiver target E.J. Williams of Phenix City (Ala.) Central showed up during the workout but did not work out. He arrived with his family and walked around with his former Central teammate, Justyn Ross, before watching the receiver group run routes and catch passes. Jeff Scott greeted Williams upon his arrival, and Williams spent time talking with Swinney individually while watching the receivers.

-- Speaking of the receiver group, Miami (Fla.) Columbus four-star Xzavier Henderson worked out this morning after spectating yesterday. He was sporting Clemson gloves and had a chance to catch passes from D.J. Uiagalelei. The two connected on a couple of passes, and at one point, Swinney pulled Henderson aside to give him some pointers.

-- The Swinney Camp is so well organized and orchestrated. As Henderson was working out, Jeff Scott went over to a staff member and told him to find coach Swinney and tell him to come over. Just a few moments later, what do you know, Swinney rolled over in his golf cart.

-- The group of prospects from California that we wrote about in our Tuesday evening notes worked out again this morning. Uiagalelei got to work with his 2021 four-star receiver teammate, Beaux Collins, again today. It was easy to see that they have great chemistry as they were throwing and catching passes. Like Henderson, Collins had Clemson gloves on.

-- A trio of standout 2021 prospects could be seen chopping it up together prior to this morning’s workout: Matthews (N.C.) Weddington four-star all-purpose back Will Shipley, Cornelius (N.C.) Hough four-star running back Evan Pryor and Chandler (Ariz.) defensive lineman Brandon Buckner.

Shipley is ranked as the No. 1 APB in the 2021 class. Pryor and Buckner, the son of former Clemson and NFL standout Brentson Buckner, are best friends.

-- There were a number of notable newcomers in with the offensive line group this morning, including Ryan Linthicum, the No. 1 center in the 2021 class from Damascus (Md.) who is teammates with Bryan Bresee.

Also working out this morning were IMG Academy 2021 four-star Weston Franklin, Chapin (S.C.) 2021 Thornton Gentry and Strongsville (Ohio) 2022 Blake Miller.

Miller, a rising sophomore, dwarfed everyone else in the O-line group he was working with. He has early Power Five offers from Indiana and Iowa State.

Franklin, who unofficially visited Clemson in late March, picked up offers from Miami and LSU last month to go with offers from South Carolina, Michigan, Pittsburgh and others.

-- A group of prospects from Fort Valley (Ga.) Peach County that included Clemson 2020 linebacker commit Sergio Allen arrived to the camp today. The group also included a prominent teammate of Allen’s who we believe Clemson may be ready to offer. We’ll have more on him later.

-- Among the defensive backs working out today was Covington (Ga.) Newton 2021 four-star cornerback Nyland Green, who has offers from schools such as Duke, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan State and UCF.

-- Also on hand was Charlotte (N.C.) Vance 2021 four-star linebacker Power Echols, whose offer list includes NC State, North Carolina and Tennessee among others. He spent a good bit of time speaking with Brad Scott before the workout.

-- Former Clemson offensive lineman Kalon Davis, who now coaches at Cardinal Newman School in Columbia, brought one of his players – 2020 offensive lineman James Reedy (6-6, 287) -- to camp.

-- Working out with the receivers this morning was Liam Clifford, a 2021 prospect from Cincinnati (Ohio) St. Xavier, the same schools that produced Clemson offensive lineman Matt Bockhorst. Penn State offered Clifford over the weekend, following offers from Tennessee and Duke in May.

-- Another notable receiver that has been working out this week is Kamonte Grimes of Naples (Fla.) Palmetto Ridge. The 2021 prospect lists offers from Ohio State, Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Maryland, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Utah and Virginia.
