Re: Bars of Clemson
Back in my day My favorite was Strawberry's/TDs. However, it is impossible not to say Esso!

Re: Bars of Clemson
we always went to Gameroom, but that's been closed for years. Our other hangouts were TDs, TTTs, and Sloan St. During summer we used to go to Charlie T's by the lake which was a blast, but i think it was only open for a couple of summers. Charlie T's in Clemson was a fun place for drinking actual buckets of beer, it turned into a couple of things and ended up as Explorers but i think even that is closed now! The Genoa Club was good for boozing on Sundays during the summer.
we rarely went to the Esso unless we were having a nickel draft party, but its probably one of my favorites now. there and TTTs

Esso Club has to be on the list.
I like Tiger Town Tavern as well.

Yea, things have really changed since I first visited the ESSO Club back in 1969. It was a small grocery store, fuel pumps, 2-bay garage for oil changes etc.. Ol' Jack Massengill(?) owned it and I'd work for him on Saturdays to help pay my rent on a place I rented from him on Lake Hartwell. The "New" place sucks

Re: Bars of Clemson
Is it worth visiting the ESSO club one time before graduating?

Re: Bars of Clemson
Way back in the WalkinTall era, we used to go to Scotty's, which is now, I think, Pixie and Bills. Scotty's had a bar side and a restaurant side. The Study Hall was also a good place to get a beer as well. That used to be across the side street from Judge Kellers.

Way, way back--- the only one was the Esso Club. An Esso Club beer and the pinball machines really made for an exciting time in the old college town. It was really a tough chore to contain our excitement.

Re: Bars of Clemson
Crazy Zachs and it had several other names, one of which was Bullwinkles (?sp). There was also a bar down the other end of 123 on the other side of the street from Wendy's and the steak house in the 80's. Can't remember the name, but it was a great establishment.

Re: Bars of Clemson
Robert, there used to be several "dives" in Clemson back in late '60s. We used to go to "Lesters" which is now a motel or hardware store where 76 dumps into 93./123(?)
I used to visit the Old 123 Truck Stop. Dang nasty place for your health. I'm not talking about the food, they didn't have any. I'm talking about drinking beer, shooting pool for money and try to get your vehicle out of the muddy lot with most of your blood you carried in. One more seriously rough house.
We used to venture into Seneca and shoot pool on Ram Cat Alley (tin cat alley), can't recall the side street, but that was one tough place. I LIKED it back in the day. I had a small anger management problem back then when I came back from Vietnam and didn't like long haired redneck hippies.
Looking back, it was foolish to GO looking for trouble... I had fun and kicked a lot of asses...
