I'm at 21 that I'm sure I've eaten and 3 more that my Mama probably made me eat that I have chosen not to remember.

I had heard of souse, but ate it under a different name...Head cheese or Hog Head Cheese. It is the head of a hog ground up and congealed into a loaf. I ate it once as a kid and NEVER again. I was at my grandma's house in North, SC a small town about 20 min away from Swansea. My sister and I threw the rest of our delicacy to the chickens and they just kicked dirt on it. Haha!

I got to 26. Wasn't sure what some of them are.

I have eaten rabbit and squirrel but not in a stew. So I didn't add those two.

Haha. My parents always made me at least try things. Chicken gizzards & livers are awful prime examples. A coworker eating lunch let me try a pigs foot one time. It was a soul food lunch for sure. I have not ever had opportunity to try Burgoo, Rabbit Stew, Fried Squirrel, or chocolate gravy on this list. I am actually shocked that the numbers are so low on this board. Guess I am somewhat country but know way more southern country folk than me.

I ate one piece of liver, but that was it! Does that count? I've eaten Rabbit, but not as a stew.

I had to Google burgoo. It's more of an upper Ohio Valley thing. Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, etc. It's essentially a stew made up of whatever meats and vegetables you have available.

Some of the stuff I've tried but will not eat again, like pig's feet and souse. If I'm going to eat a hog's head I prefer it to be in the form of a hig head hash and eat it over rice or white bread.

I imagine a few of you can add a point for Hoppin' John. It's blackeyed peas and rice cooked with a ham hock, hog jowl, or in more modern times a snoked turkey neck or wing.

Poke salad is made from the leaves of a poke berry bush. I'm not eating anything that if it's not prepared just right is highly toxic.
